The GGCFD team is so grateful for the generous donations from the friends of the Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive! We have collected over $20,000 since the start of the pandemic to support local shelters and food pantries. Right now, we are hard at work coordinating the distribution of SHARE fresh food packages, canned goods, and funds to organizations in our communities. We’re proud that 100% of the funds you contributed will go to the food banks, pantries and people who need it most in the #DMV.
Here are some of the ways your contributions have been put to use;
100 SHARE Fresh Food Value Packages distributed to St. Mary’s of the Mills’ food pantry (Laurel, MD)
100 SHARE Fresh Food Value Packages distributed to St Bernadine’s food pantry (Hillcrest Heights, MD)
30 SHARE Fresh Food Value Packages to MBI Health Services (Washington, DC)
10 SHARE Fresh Food Value Packages distributed to Washington Jesuit Academy families, as well as a commitment to continue to supply food on an ongoing basis
$1,000 worth of food, plus $500 in monetary donations, to the John S. Mulholland Family Foundation’s “Summer in the City” food drive supporting inner city parishes
$500 in monetary donations for the St. John Neumann parish food pantry to support the Gaithersburg, MD community
$500 for the purchase of food for McKenna Center Greg Gannon food pantry
In addition to the contributions above, here’s how we’re continuing to serve our community and put your contributions to use:
Created a buying relationship with Safeway on Connecticut Ave to supply food for our food bundles
Established a staging center at The Crab House on Connecticut Avenue to build the food bundles
Created a team of volunteers to deliver SHARE packages, make food bundles, and safely deliver them to pantries and families
Continued to partner with Catholic Charities to fill in the gaps of pantries that cannot be reached
We are looking for volunteers to help distribute the food throughout the metro area. If you are interested in driving, please at our website. Thank you, #GGCFD30 community! There are many grassroot movements to fill the gaps of the food insecure. We are doing what we have been doing for the past 32 years, which has been our motto “families helping families”.Because of you, we can help feed families. As my brother Greg always said, “One person can make a difference”.
Peace,
Rick G & The GGCFD Team
