1 September 2023 SHRINE OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT WASHINGTON DC ALTAR SERVER TRAINING
BEFORE MASS:
Candidates should have made their First Communion.
Candidates should be in at least the Fifth Grade.
Candidates should know how to genuflect correctly.
Candidates should know how to make the sign of the Cross.
Candidates can be girls OR boys.
Presentable shoes that you can easily walk in without tripping, as the congregation probably will see these. Refrain from wearing high-heels or flip-flops.
If you have long hair, tie it back or wear it in a ponytail so that it does not get caught in anything. In some instances, altar servers often carry candles, so by not tying back your hair, you could risk it catching fire.
AT MASS:
Arrive at church at the very latest at least 15 minutes before the Mass begins (Make a visit to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle). The earlier you arrive, the more time you will have to prepare and approach your service in prayer.
When you first arrive at the church, be sure to remove any gum or candy you have in your mouth.
NEW- When you arrive, please sign in at the entrance of the Church. Near the Processional Cross, you’ll see a binder with all the positions that support the Mass. Either place a check and sign in next to your name OR if the Altar Server space is empty, please write your name. This helps Grace to know where coverage is still needed before Mass begins.
