As we’ve watched the effects of COVID-19 unfold over the last few months, one of the biggest issues that has come to the forefront is food insecurity in America. It is startling to see the lines of cars waiting in parking lots to receive food – many of these people have never had to ask for food, and they now find themselves in need of help from others to feed their families.
Blessed Sacrament has a long-standing tradition of social outreach and supporting the greater community. I wanted to share some good news about the efforts of our own parishioners that have stepped up to bring food to the tables of those in need. SHARE Food Network, the John S. Mulholland Foundation, and the Greg Gannon Canned Food Drive have all increased their efforts to bring food to the community. Just this past week, Tim Gormley, Bill Black and Rick Gannon and the GGCFD team brought over 70 SHARE value packages to Friendship House and the food pantry at St Mary’s of the Mill. The GGCFD team has sent over $5,000 in donations to help stock various Catholic Charity pantries. And last but not least, Brian Mulholland has raised much-needed funds to expand his work with the poorest parishes within the city.
I know that many of you are eager to help while also being mindful of social distancing laws. I am asking that you continue to support the efforts of
SHARE,
GGCFD, and the
John S. Mullholland Foundation by sending money to one of these programs so they can continue their good work. You can find them via our parish website, or clicking on the links provided to get more information on how you can donate your time and money.
We sincerely appreciate all of your support and are proud of how Blessed Sacrament Parish is supporting the community during this difficult time.
