Fr. John Mudd: A Priest with Great Joy
At Work in the Archdiocese Marketplace
Friday, June 6, 2025 (after 5:30 PM Mass)
Join our parish community gathering of men and women to explore how others live and practice their faith in the marketplace!
Our speaker is Fr. John Mudd, a native Washingtonian and Archdiocesan priest for 56 years whose service started prior to the Second Vatican Council (1962 - 1965) and unfolded amidst the changes to be on the forefront of instigating locally the contours of liturgical modifications which marked a new dynamic in the Church. Fr. Mudd’s assignments included of Our Lady Queen of Peace parish, the Archdiocesan Office of Social Development while in residence at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Associate and then Pastor of Sts. Paul and Augustine Parish, two parishes which were undergoing demographic changes mirroring the movement of black Catholics into previous white neighborhoods. In 1990 he assumed the position of Director of Development at Archbishop Carroll High School, his Alma matter, raising unprecedented funds for Catholic education until his retirement in 2013. In retirement, Fr. Mudd continues to offer pastoral ministry at Fort Belvoir, the Navy Yard, and Arlington National Cemetery, and local parishes. His work is guided by a deep conviction that proclaiming the Gospel means striving for a more just and equitable world, especially by serving those Pope Francis called the people on the peripheries of society.
All are invited to be part of this active parish organization and are urged to please bring a friend. There will be an interesting conversation on the marketplace which is shaped by dedication, joy and commitment to pastoral work in a non-traditional manner. Please join us.
Faith in the Marketplace attends the 5:30 PM Mass on the first Friday of the month, then meets for fellowship. A speaker, usually a parishioner, discusses the impact of faith on his life and work, and a brief question and answer session follows. We also assist the Blessed Sacrament community by supporting SHARE, our elderly, and our parishioners with special needs. Finally, the group looks for opportunities to assist others in the community in various ways, such as helping them get to Sunday Mass, supporting children with special needs, and addressing other challenges with its resources.
