For centuries Christians of many denominations have lit candles in honor of Our Lord, Our Lady and the Saints. The word comes from the Latin meaning a vow. Candles are also lit for the beloved dead or to accompany an intention or petition.
Of late, we have experienced several what might be called "near misses" regarding the improper handling of the candles, the lighters, etc. To protect our beautiful church from possible fire damage, and for the safety of our people, the candles have been removed until we can determine a permanent solution. In the interim, there will be perpetual lamps lit at the Shrines of Our Lady and St. Joseph as well as the statues of the Sacred Heart, The Little Flower, and St. Anthony representing all our parishioners' prayer intentions and petitions. The lamps will be tended by staff only. We thank you for your understanding.
