Forty days ago, the church was filled throughout the day with people lining up to have their heads smudged with ashes! On Easter Sunday the church is filled again for people to get splashed with holy water!
Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday are like bookends that contain what is essential truth to so many Christians: we are sinners in need of salvation; through the death and Resurrection of Jesus we are redeemed and offered a participation in Resurrection life.
That so many people come to celebrate Easter and Resurrection life is a powerful witness to how much we want to participate in it. We may sometimes feel as though we do not “have it.” That is precisely the time when we need to plug in and receive the Spirit that breathes in the community of believers.
Thank you for choosing to plug in today at Blessed Sacrament, a community of faith that gives witness to the power of the Risen Christ in its midst every day of the year. I pray that all of us may receive the Spirit over these next fifty days to live and feel the Resurrection life and give witness to its saving power.
A blessed Easter Season to you and your loved ones!
