Altar duty takes place every Thursday directly after the 8:00 am Mass. It is possible for Units to schedule Altar Duty on Thursdays following the 5:30 pm Mass, provided the Pastor approves the change of time and an Altar Guild Coordinator is notified in advance.
Altar duty is an obligation of each Sodalist, reflecting our devotion to caring for the sacred spaces of the church and the chapel. Each Unit has a point of contact responsible for the Unit's altar duty assignment. Please remember to email both the Altar Guild Coordinator and the Alternate the name of and contact information for that person so we can keep the list current.
Using Sign Up Genius or other scheduling system, the Unit schedules at least two Sodalists for each time of duty as well as a substitute in case of unexpected changes. Sodalists should plan on spending up to one hour completing tasks--often the time required is less.
An Altar Guild Director will meet Sodalists in the Work Sacristy (St. Joseph side, to the left of the altar) at the end of 8:00 a.m. Mass or 5:30 p.m. Mass. Sodalists sign in and, at a minimum, complete the tasks on the checklist in the Sodality binder. Depending on need, additional tasks may be required.
